Ecological Baseline and Detailed Surveys
Proposed ESIA for reprocessing of iron tailings including development of a Rapid Biodiversity Assessment and full baseline studies for IUCN Red Listed threatened species. We worked with the University of Exeter Centre for Ecology and Conservation to undertake detailed marine turtle surveys, identifying areas of Critical Habitat, surveying for egg-harvesting and working with local villagers to devise a suitable strategy for protection.
IBC worked on an ESIA Scoping Study for a 4 billion tonne iron ore resource providing ecological project management input and ecological assessment. This included management of specialist studies for new species and additional surveys for IUCN Red Listed threatened species. We also provided technical ecological advice in reference to IUCN Red Listed Endangered species presence including the ESIA Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Assessment for the Environmental Scoping Report.
Further indepth specialist studies were also required for high profile Endangered mammals (Nimba otter shrew, Micropotamogale lamottei) and other species new to science (invertebrates, amphibians and a reptile). This work assisted with mitigation and offsetting design options and development of a project Critical Habitat Assessment.
Ecology Lead undertaking project management of ecologists and studies for great crested newt (GCN), badger sett and bat roost translocation and monitoring, together with sensitive habitat mitigation including translocation of wetland grassland and specialized lichen rock communities.
Lead Ecologist for a 800 km export pipeline project. Working with specialist Biodiversity Contractor to develop risk profile and initial scoping study feed-in development. Review of data and mapping.
Acted as Assistant Project Manager for a gold mine ESIA, writing and providing input for various components. Also included management of bio-physical survey staff and SHE and travel issues.
Also responsible for Ecology including on-site ecological assessment to IFC/Equator Principles/International Council on Mineral and Mining (ICMM) Standards.
Development and management of the biodiversity and ecological component for an Environmental Statement Assessment (ESA) including management of local contractors.
ESIA and ecological gap analysis to IFC/EP/ICMM standards for a proposed gold mine at Charaat in the NW Kyrgyzstan.
